A little moment in Belgium (July 28-30)

We didn’t know that we were going to Belgium when we started off on this trip, but, following the wise advice of other travelers, we are following the good weather. And I’m so glad we did!

Belgium, a country about the size of Maryland (one of my home states ❤️), is known for waffles, beer, fries, diamonds, and super smooth chocolate! We loved Bruges, a walkable town packed with buildings of historic elegance and plenty to do.

The Historium is a Unique presentation of Bruges history through connecting historical places, occupations, and events into a story.
Bridges and canals add to the city’s picturesque landscape.

Bruges has SO many cathedrals for its size. Gothic style buildings are all over Europe, but these are in great condition and well concentrated. Michelangelo’s only statue that left Italy during his lifetime still resides at the Church of Our Lady Bruges (after being stollen in a couple World Wars).

Gorgeous stained glass is not in short supply 😊

A little sampling of architecture: The peaked edifice and stained glass windows were very common.

The North Sea

Next, we headed to the beach! Belgium borders the North Sea at the Strait of Dover. Our family is big fans of sand! It was windy and cool, but super comfortable. Unlike the Mediterranean beaches, we had a few shells laying around and huge expanses of fine sand.

Brief and beautiful… I hope to come back to Belgium someday!
